AMX-500 mouse replacement

Has anyone been successful in replacing the mouse on an AMX system with
a Logitech Trackman mouse? The mouse documentation indicates the mouse
is compatible with other serial mouse systems, but our AMX500 doesn't
recognize the Trackman when it is plugged in.
