This has been suggested many times but, unfortunately, it is not
as easy as it seems. With Aspect 3000 files the method of transfering
them between the Aspect 3000 and the Internet must be the same
in both directions or it won't work. i.e. if the file is transfered
from the Aspect to a Unix machine via kermit it must be transfered
from the Unix machine on the other end to the Aspect via kermit
NOT Bruknet or some other method. (Some combinations are compatible
but I would rather not get into a discussion of which methods
are compitible with which other methods.) In addition the information
needed to execute a program, such as start address and the executable
flag are lost in the transfer. They would have to be manually reset
on the receiving end. Due to these difficulties we have decided
it is not viable to make Aspect 2000/3000 updates available via this
method.

As far as X32 programs, this is a much simpler problem. We have been
looking into ways of making patches, small utilities, or AU/pulse
programs available via Internet (e.g. anonymous ftp or list servers)
but have not decided on the best method. Whole UXNMR releases are
rather large (>50Mb) to transfer this way, even with compression.
In addition a new boottape is frequently needed and this is not
easily downloded via the Internet.

Due to the increasing number of users with Internet or at least
e-mail access we have been looking into new ways of improving
the flow of information and software between Bruker and the users.
The Bruker Customer Information Service (to register send e-mail
to sales@spectrospin.ch) is one step in this direction. Look for
other e-mail/Internet based services in the future.
