Since our AM500 Brucker instrument with a 5BBprobe is the only one in our
country (there are other 200 and 300 spectrographs),the Argentina National
Research Council requires of us to do service for other labs;with the idea
of being eventually self-sufficient.
Since October 1995,when we started our NMR service, only some organic chemists
a few pharmacological industries and two plastics labs. showed some interest.
So we are eagerly looking for problems to be solved by our NMR instrument. The
following are some of the subjects submitted to us:
1-One of our petroleum companies let me know that occasionally they have used
NMR for the analysis of additives in gas and oil.
2-Another company would be very interested in NMR,in case it would be able to
determine when a sample is adulterated with a mixture of solvents or with gas
of another brand (but keeping sometimes the octane number).
The question is that even the original non-adulterated gas of the same
company consists of a big number of different samples due to different origin
o craking process, etc. I propose them to run H-1 or C-13 NMR spectra of the
set of all the non-adulterated samples and compare the suspicious one with
the "normal" set.
3-The head of the Industry Dept. of our Faculty is interested in the analysis
of pollutants in water and soils, but I did not find any NMR use for the
subject.
4-A paper manufacturing company is interested in the analysis of lignin.
A bibliographical rearch shows that there is a P-31 method, but it requires a
lot of previous chemical work, that we cannot undertake.
Given the experience that many of you have with service,or to handle problems
of the kind above,I would appreciate very much any suggestion about the
subjects (except wines) for which we could offer our NMR service;and,if
possible, the reference of the used methods.
Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks.
Dora.
