Dear BUMers: I'm currently searching for a postdoctoral candidate skilled
in solids NMR, wishing to apply these skills to investigate the
photodegradation of wood-based materials (see below for a more complete
description). I would appreciate any assistance you can provide locating
potential candidates.

>Research description for Photoaging of Biopolymers Postdoctoral Position

>This research project will explore the fundamental mechanistic pathways by
which UV-screens (stilbene, benzotriazole, and other structures)
photostabilize lignocellulosic materials. Research studies will examine the
photo-initiated oxidative degradation of wood-based materials pulps treated
with UV-screens and also determine the chemical fate of the UV-screens.
Research emphasis will be on determining the oxidative degradation pathways
of new UV-screens and their effect on lignin.

>Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, preferably in organic, or
photochemistry. The applicant must be experienced in modern chromatography
systems including HPLC, GC, Tlc, and standard column chromatography methods.
Experience in advanced NMR methods liquids (1H, 13C, 1D and 2D methods) and
solids, FT-IR, GC/MS and UV/VIS spectroscopy are required. A background in
photochemistry is desired, although not necessary.
