I've had a couple colleagues ask me why 2D spectra often require dummy
scans. Since I'm in charge of making sure the SGI doesn't crash and
have limited knowledge in "advanced" NMR techniques, I either wave my
hands and thell them that it has something to do with the phase program
in the pulse sequence (if it's a faculty member) or tell them I don't
know (if it's a fellow student). Can anyone help me out with this?
