Several students here have been backing up their data via the ftp to
their lab computers using fetch (the typical[?] ftp program for Macs).
Unfortunately, the program preferences were set to download files as
text files. This obviously causes significant problems with fid and ser
files. Is there any way that we can convert an fid or ser file that has
be ftp'ed as text into a file that is actually usable?
