I have a low tech but very annoying problem on our older AM-500 that is
shared by a nearby AC system that is also several years old. Recently
a significant fraction of samples being put into the magnet get hung up
before they reach the bottom of the spinner stack. They remain there for
indefinite periods (I usually raise and lower them until I hear them fall
all the way to the bottom). Some probes seem to be worse than others,
and our heavier ceramic spinner seems to perform more reliably than the
plastic one, but this is generally unpredictable. If anyone has seen this
problem and has a suggestion, I would appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks, Dave Vander Velde, University of Kansas
