Critical probe position?

Dear BUMers,

How *critical* is it to place the probe in exactly the 'correct' (whatever that
is) z-position in the magnet? How much difference on shimming, line-shapes etc
would a displacement by 7-8 mm make? How long is the 'homogeneous' region of the
field in modern supercon magnets?

The problem is that we have a custom made probe which seems to be 7-8 mm too
'short'. (I.e., will we have to re-build the probe or not?)

73, Peter (et al)
