Surplus XL-400 NMR

The University of South Carolina is proposing to sell as surplus
property the XL-400 that was used by Dr. Ellis before he left for
Batelle PNL. If you are interested in bidding on all or part of
the instrument, please let me know so I can include you in the
bid solicitation. You can contact me by email at

added to the solicitation list or for more information. The
equipment we propose to sell off is itemized below with a
suggestion for a minimum responsive bid at each level.

Varian XL-400 NMR Spectrometer
Vintage 1985

Note: You can bid on individual items, packages, or the entire
lot. Award will be to the bidder(s) whose bid(s), in whatever
combination, result in the highest revenue to the state of South
Carolina.

1) Varian XL-400 Broadband console, PN 958000-46, SN 1045 (USC
#187240), with VXR wideband receiver, includes various manuals
and other documentation
1a) Epson printer
1b) Color monitor
1c) HP 7475 plotter (USC #177411)
1d) Room temperature shim system
1e) VT accessory
1f) Various extender boards and cables plus various spare
printed circuit boards (condition unknown)

Recommended minimum bid - $1000.00

2) Oxford 400/54 superconducting magnet and cryostat (5 month
Helium refill interval) (Project #C28400, Magnet #94139, cryostat
#DLN0108/07/03) Includes Helium level meter, transfer line,
energization rods

Recommended minimum bid - $35,000.00

3) High resolution Varian probes
3a) Varian 5mm 1H/19F solution probe, PN 953585, SN 239
3b) Varian 10mm broadband solutions probe, 30-105 MHz,
PN 953586-02, SN 222, with 5 tuning rods, A through E

Recommended minimum bid - $500 ea or $750 for both

4) Items 1 through 3 above, a complete 400 MHz broadband high
resolution spectrometer.

Recommend minimum to be greater of sum of individual best offers
or $36,750.

5) Solids probes
5a) Doty 7mm CP/MAS probe, 40.5 MHz (USC #171796)
5b) Doty 5mm powder probe, 61.4 MHz.
5c) Doty broadband 5mm powder probe w/ deuterium tuning wand
5d) Doty broadband 7mm CP/MAS probe, DS1-154, with 6 tuning
wands
5e) Doty high speed broadband 5mm CP/MAS probe, DS1-165,
with 10 tuning wands
5f) Homebuilt (Ellis) 13C/113Cd CP/MAS probe
5g) 14 additional tuning wands for Doty probes

Recommend minimum of $1000 for 4e, $500 for 4d, and best offer
for each of the others

6) Complete set of solids probes in item 5.

Recommend minimum to be greater of sum of individual offers or
$2000 for the lot.

Note: We are committed to having magnet/cryostat professionally
decommisioned and crated.

Otherwise, system is offered as is/ where is. It is the buyer's
responsibility to disassemble system and prepare for shipping.
