A couple of weeks ago I posted a question about telnetting from a Sun
running Solaris to an SGI and running XWINNMR. We had problems with
colour mapping.
Per private requests that I post any answers:
Bruno Guigas of Bruker pointed out that the display is fighting with
another application on the SUN. This system turns on a Help Viewer when
you log on. When I quit the help viewer, all was fine.
In hindsight, I should have realized that was the problem. We see the
same sort of problem with students who run Mosaic and try to process
simultaneously.
So, the answer is: if you have what appear to be colour mapping or
sharing problems, quit any other applications that are running. this
should solve many (but probably not all) of these problems.
