Hello to all in NMRland,

This is my first message to the list so please excuse my
naive nettiquette. I have searched the BUM & AMMRL archives
for the solution to the following problem but to no avail, so
here goes.

My question concerns BRUKNET connecting an ASPECT 3000 to
an X32 (CPU/3 AMX500). I am trying to download the new
version(s) of DISNMR from ftp.bruker.de. We have a VAX
firewall here at Fisons UK, so the programs have seen a few
platforms before arriving on the X32. I am sure all the file
transfer types ( ASCII versus Binary - my thanks go to Yuri
Strelenko for his helpful comments ) are correct and the .LIB
files have been unzipped correctly on our Mac using Stuffit
Deluxe.

When the LIB.3004 program is transferred to the ASPECT
via BRUKNET using the script "eput", the file arrives as an
ASCII file ( This is found by DIR:F LIB.3004, but why ? ). I
have reset the file attributes of the program using ADAKOS as
follows:

LOA LIB.3004 2000
STO LIB.3004 2000-6442; 2000 'IXP:Y

The program will not run, it just hangs the ASPECT, so
what have I done wrong ? I am aware of the KERMIT option, but
we do not have an RS232 cable long enough to connect the two
machines. I also understand that the X32 is, no surprise, a
32-bit machine and the ASPECT is only 24-bit with a different
byte order, so my hunch is that this is the problem. By the
way, our floppy drive is broken, so we cannot extract it from
a diskette either. We do not have any other software option
to transfer the/any files.

Any bright ideas ? Mark Dixon
