Dear BUMers,
Recently we have solved the problem of Aspect 2000/3000 data link
via TCP/IP by the chippest method. The heart of the system is the homebuilt
interface card connected Aspect data_bus with LPT port of PC box. This
interface works as bidirectoral connector. It divides 24-bits Aspect's word
to 3 bytes and sends its to PC, or combines 3 bytes from PC into one
Aspect's word. PC-box is any PC 286-386-486 with Ethernet card. So, it
works as retranslator. Any current spectral file (FID or SPC) can be saved
on the server in few seconds. Our spectral server is PC-486-100MHz-8MB-2GB
with Linux.
With this simple hardware and appropriate software it is possible
to:
1. Send any file from Aspect 2000/3000 to any server via TCP/IP
NFS. Last month we have started the FID-service for chemists in our
N.D.Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry. All our spectrometers are
equipped with PC-retranslators:
WM 250 (1979)
AM 300 (1984)
AC 200 (1989)
AC 200 (1994)
PC_box_disk is used for temporary file storage when spectral server is not
available for some reasons.
2. Send the plot to network printer and a copy to the spectral
server as file for chemist.
3. Use PC_box_disk for virtual Aspect 2000/3000 disk as current
disk unit (DU=D7) in DISNMR, for starting DISNMR and ADAKOS from it. This
means that it is possible to work without CDC, NEC or SCSI disks. In this
case it is needed to use modified ADAKOS89 (Thanks Dr. Roos, Spectrospin,
for source code of ADAKOS89.beta). Virtual Aspect disk on PC_box is a large
DOS file and is readable via network by DOS program. This is another way
for manual data transfer.
4. With enough memory in Aspect 3000 (we have installed 3 MB = 1
MW) it is possible to configure the RAM-drive 500-800 KW, copy to it
DISNMR, most of needed **.AU and others files and work without any hard
drive with modified memory_resident_ADAKOS89 (40 KW).
We are going to install ROM-loader for starting ADAKOS from
PC_box_disk, add botton on "Aspect face": PC_DISK, DISK, FLOPPY, TEST1...
and install Linux on PC_box for more simple and sofisticated programming.
Forward to "The Best Applied NMR !"
With best wishes and kind regards, Yuri Strelenko.
