Interfacing Indy R4600 to HP7550A

Dear BUMers,

Many thanks to all who responded to our request for information on interfacing
the HP7550A to an Indy.

While our initial sympathies lay with Jane Strouse's recommendations to look
for signs of schizophrenia in the HP7550A, our plotter proved to be well
adjusted in that respect but not in its relationship to the Indy.

The interface cable which we had scrounged was evidently an inappropriate
support system but one constructed according to the recommendations of John
Grundy from Bruker USA [plus Pin 8 (DIN-8) connected to ground (DB-25)
which may not be important], together with the default plotter configuration
provides the necessary link. Note that this configuration, also recommended
by John, is slightly different to that given in the XWINNMR manual.

For anybody who may have thrown away their responses, the key information
supplied by John Grundy is repeated below.

Thanks again to everyone who responded to our request for help!

Glenn King and Bill Bubb

Hello Glenn,

The following pinout should work to an HP7550A and other HP Plotters.
On the 7550A you connect to the center port "computer/modem" and use the
default configurations. These can be set by holding the UP arrow key while
turning on the plotter. Bruker also makes this cable, p/n HZ04112. On the
Indy, connect to serial port 1 or 2. In XwinNmr 'cfpp', choose ttyf1 or ttyf2.

Best Regards, John Grundy
