cannot change configuration with setres

In Xwinnmr 1.3, patchlevel 8 I realized that some users are not able to change
their configuration with "setres".

I assumed it was some file permission problem. So I looked into the file
permissions of .xwinnmr/ and .xwinnmr/resources which were OK (drwxr-xr-x and
-rw-r--r-- respectively) for both the accounts where it worked and where not.

I could change the resources manually by vi-ing the .xwinnmr/resources file
but not with the "setres" command.

Our system is an SGI Indy with Irix 5.3
