SCSI disk drive maintenance

On our old AMX-400 system (X/32 cpu), we now have only SCSI
drives. (We got rid of the SMD interface a long time ago.)

What is recommend in terms of a standard maintenance practice
to make sure you keep your SCSI drives healthy? As on any
system, there are occasional times when a "neat" shutdown is not
possible. I realize that file system checks are then performed
upon re-start, but it seems that one should run some sort of disk
utility from time to time to ensure that your file system integrity is
maintained, and that bad media spots are discovered
and mapped. Can anyone make recommendations on this?

Thanks,

-Bill-
