There was interest in a summary of responses regarding my query about the
BSMS: SETLK: Bad file number
error message.
Thanks again to all your responses. I have a series of solutions experiments
that I must get out of the way before I try any of these suggestions.

-------------------

It seems that your error message has to do with a software-bug.
Maybe you have to load the newest patchlevel (I believe its level 7) for
Xwinnmr2.0, and play with you locnuc parameter.

-------------------
Also from above:

I have another suggestion:
If you still have problems with the error message, you don't have to confirm
the OK button each time. With the 'setdef' command under Xwinnmr you set the
parameter ackn (acknowledgement) on no.
Eventually you can put 'setdef ackn no' in your .uxnmr file,
so each startup session of XWinNMR automatically loads the correct
settings.

--------------------

1. is your LOCNUC set to off?
2. if yes, this is a known bug, I think fixed at patchlevel 7 (or get 2.1)

--------------------

If you can, switch to xwinnmr 2.1 where this bug is solved. In the mean
time,
just make sure that the LOCNUC parameter is on 2H instead of being off.
