We have an SGI O2 for processing spectral NMR data. Originally 192 Mb
(2x16+4x32). When I tried to upgrade memory to 448 Mb (2x32 + 6x64 Mb,
using DIMMs from someone else than SGI) bothersome things happened.
The hinv command confirmed the new memory size but other things didn't
work. I checked the O2 technical data sheet which explicitly said that 64
Mb DIMMs would be ok. But when I checked with SGI they 'support' only 16,
32 and 128 Mb DIMMs.
So the question is what sort of memory configurations people are using
with their 'obsolete' O2s (R5000)? And why SGI don't support 64 Mb DIMMs
today (or why 64 Mb DIMMs is creating a problem at all)?
Best wishes.
73, Peter
