Applications are invited for the above position. Following a probationary
period of 1 year the appointment may be renewed for a total of 5 years.
The position will become permanent for a suitable candidate. The initial
salary will be IR£25791 on an incremental scale to IR£37305 in the final
year. Candidates must have experience of using modern high field NMR
instruments. They should have a Ph.D. in either biochemistry, chemistry or
a related discipline and have at least 1 year of relevant postdoctoral
experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to operate and maintain a 500 MHz
Bruker standard bore NMR. This will form the basis for a new centre for
Biological NMR in Ireland funded by the Wellcome Trust and situated in the
Biochemistry Department at University College Dublin. The NMR spectrometer
will be used to study a range of biological systems. These will include
IH , 13C, 15N and 31P-NMR studies on proteins, some protein structure
studies, studies on cell metabolism and intracellular pH values. Some
experience of using SGO2 workstations would be an advantage. The NMR
manager will install, develop and maintain the appropriate Bruker hardware
and software. The NMR manager will also instruct new users in its use and
participate in ongoing research projects.
