Disk-Defragmentation under WinNT

Hi all,

after a power failure during lunchtime I decided to check the hard
drive on our PC running XWin-NMR 2.5 which wasnt a good idea at
all. After several AUTOCHECK runs the system has been clean,
but the moment I tried to defragment the hard drive I got nothing but
weird error messages and debugger runs. Switching of all not really
needed services did help a little bit but everytimes the disk
defgramentation program tried to access a Del*.isu file or files
related to the Visual C++ 5.0 package (XWin-NMR and Icon-NMR
do really need the C++ package installed) the disk fragmentation
program stopped with an unrecoverable error (Diskeeper Lite didnt
even start defragmentation, ist stopped during the analysis run;
Nortons Disk Speed managed to finish the job half way).

Did something similar happen to anybody else out there in NMR-
country? If yes - is there any known solution to get around that
problem? The hard drive really needs to get defragmented because
the system slowed down visibly the last three weeks.

Thanks,

Gerd
