GCU communication is AMX-2

Dear Bummers,

The saga of the new installation of XWIN-NMR on an AspectStation host
running an AMX2 spectrometer continues.

The main problem now is that there appears no communication with the GCU
(Gradient Control Unit). Any pulse sequence without ghradient pulses works
fine - but any sequence with an ngrad command freezes XWIN control.... you
can type more commands, or try to kill the zg, but they all do nothing. The
zg can only aborted using "kill -9 pid" in a unix windown.

David Cory here at MIT recalls a makedevice command is required to make
the spectrometer talk to the GCU. However, we can;t ermember it, or find it
documented anywhere.

If anyone has any advice or memory of how to do this, it would be much
appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Ross
