Hi All,
We ran into a bit problem with the bloch FTP server. It was the target
of a DoS attack yesterday. Among other things, writing to an ftp
directory was used in an attempt to make the system run out of
inodes.
Unfortunately, the Script Kiddies idea of a good time is incompatible
with the the concept of public service. For the time being, ftp is
disabled. I might eventually find a clever way to prevent future attacks.
Until I find the time to do this, the server will remain unavailable.
Another item is that each email sent to the BUM list generates a bounce
containing:
Mailer-Daemon@bfa.de
Subject: Message status - undeliverable
The message that you sent was undeliverable to the following: jme
I cannot find any "jme" on the mailing list, so until someone can clue
me in, or fixes local forwarding, I keep getting the boring messages.
Does anyone know who's address might cause this?
I did ask the Postmaster@bfa.de for assistance -- so far, no reply.
Finally, you may have notice that, for quite some time, BUM mail has originated
from purcell.cchem.berkeley.edu. It is best send your messages to:
"bruker-users-mail@purcell.cchem.berkeley.edu"
or "bum@purcell.cchem.berkeley.edu".
Similarly, requests for additions/deletions/changes should go to
"bruker-users-request@purcell.cchem.berkeley.edu"
(And, as before, requests sent to any other address continue to be ingored).
