POSITIONS AVAILABLE AT CMR

The following two positions are currently available within CMR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------

Postdoctoral Research Fellow - High-Resolution NMR

The Centre for Magnetic Resonance is a major research and service facility
within the University of Queensland. The Centre conducts research programs
in Magnetic Resonance Technology and supports research programs involving
diverse applications of NMR and MRI. Eight superconducting NMR systems are
housed within the Centre.

The Centre manages a University high-field NMR facility which is equipped
with Bruker Avance DMX750 and DRX500 spectrometers and various off-line
processing workstations. The facility provides high-resolution NMR support
to a wide range of research groups with applications in the chemical,
biochemical, physical, and medical sciences. Major areas of application and
interest are:

- Protein structure and function
- Elucidation of natural product and chemical compound structures
- Analysis of Biofluids
- NMR technique development

A postdoctoral research Fellowship is currently available within CMR for a
high-resolution NMR spectroscopist. The appointee will be responsible for
management of the systems and further development of the facility. While
the appointee will be expected to carry out consultative and collaborative
research with other University researchers, the position represents an
opportunity to develop an independent research profile and career in NMR
spectroscopy.

Qualified candidates should possess a Ph.D. in chemistry (organic or
physical) or bio-chemistry, with postdoctoral experience in the application
of modern multidimensional NMR techniques to biochemical or chemical
sciences.

This is a fixed term full time position at Postdoctoral Research Fellow
(Level A) for 12 months, although it is anticipated that funding will be
secured for at least three years. The salary range is A$39,603 - A$48,234
per annum, plus employer superannuation contribution of 8%.

Contact Dr. Ian Brereton, ian.brereton@cmr.uq.edu.au, or
http://www.cmr.uq.edu.au/ to obtain further information. Send your
application along with a resume and names of three referees to Dr. Ian
Brereton, Centre for Magentic Resonance, University of Queensland, Brisbane
Qld 4072, Australia. Closing Date: March 31, 2001

NMR SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Experienced Engineer required for NMR Systems Engineering. The appointee
will be responsible for the maintenance, repairs and monitoring of the MRI
scanners and spectrometers under the control of the Centre for Magnetic
Resonance.

The Centre conducts major research programs in Magnetic Resonance Technology
and supports various research programs involving diverse applications of
magnetic resonance, including biomedical MRI, MR microscopy, high-resolution
and solid-state NMR spectroscopy, and EPR spectroscopy. Eight
superconducting NMR systems are housed within the Centre, including a 2T
whole-body MRI system dedicated to MR imaging research and a 750 MHz
spectrometer for high-field biomolecular NMR studies. A pulsed FT EPR system
is due for installation this year, and three further whole-body scanners
have been ordered as part of collaborations with major Brisbane hospitals.

In the role of NMR Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the
maintenance of all instrumentation within the Centre, in particular, the
appointee will be expected to perform:
· Maintenance of NMR and EPR spectrometers
· Maintenance of superconducting magnet cryogens
· Maintenance of building infrastructure and security
· Provide technical support to other CMR staff and students
· Provide training/advice to other staff and students in optimal use of
resources.

You should posses and Undergraduate Degree in Electronic Engineering or
equivalent with not less than 5 years relevant post-graduate experience.
This is a 12 month, full-time appointment in the first instance, at HEW
Level 7. The remuneration package will be in the range of A$45,314 -
A$49,592 per annum, including employer superannuation contributions of 8%.
