Short term post doc (9 months) in solid state NMR. University of Bristol,
UK.

Firstly, this position is funded by a European Union research training
network. It therefore has strict eligibility criteria, so please check you
are eligible before responding.

A post-doctoral research position is available in the Department of Earth
Sciences, University of Bristol. The post is available for a duration of 9
months and is funded by an EU research training network. It is open to
citizens of EU member states and associated states, or to people who have
resided within the EU for at least 5 years. Applicants must not have
carried out their normal activities in the UK for more than 12 out the
previous 24 months prior to appointment.

The successful applicant will work within the EU Research Training Network
entitled Hydrogen Speciation in Upper Mantle Minerals (HYDROSPEC). The main
objective of the HYDROSPEC project is to build a comprehensive model for
the hydrogen speciation in the Earths upper mantle and to describe
quantitatively the hydrogen cycle in the mantle. The research undertaken
within the network is being developed in a very collaborative and
multidisciplinary way, involving mineralogists, geophysicists, solid state
physicists, petrologists, crystallographers, spectroscopists and
geochemists from the participatinglaboratories in Bayreuth, Bristol,
London, Nancy, Stockholm, Toulouse and Wien.

In Bristol, 1H MAS NMR is being used as a tool for measuring the
concentration and speciation of water in mantle minerals. The ideal
candidate will have experience in solid state NMR, or high pressure and
temperature synthesis. Our laboratory is equipped with modern Bruker DSX
300 and DSX 400 spectrometers.

Applications from women are particularly encouraged on the basis of equal
opportunity.
