NMR Applications Specialist

The College of Chemistry at University of California, Berkeley seeks an
Applications Specialist for its NMR facility.  The facility currently
houses five NMR spectrometers (two 500, two 400, and one 300 MHz
instruments) and several workstations; a 600 MHz instrument will be
installed later this year.

Primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive NMR spectroscopy support
and user training to approximately 350 users with varying needs and diverse
research efforts.  Additional duties include assisting with upgrades,
writing proposals for new instrumentation, assisting technical staff with
spectrometer maintenance, and performing administrative duties.  Research
opportunities will be available and are actively encouraged.

Required qualifications:  Ph.D. and 1+ yrs. experience in NMR; strong
background in liquids (and, ideally, solids) NMR using Bruker and/or Varian
instruments; solid understanding of NMR hardware and software technology,
design, and application of complex pulse experiments; experience in
structural and conformational analysis.  Basic UNIX, C, Perl, Tcl/Tk and
CGI background a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
are essential.
