The Sixth Annual RISE Workshop was held on August 24-25, 2001, at McMaster University in Hamilton. The Workshop began on Friday evening with the traditional wine and cheese reception, allowing the 2001 RISE Scholars, faculty participants, and industry representativesi to meet and get acquainted with one another. The next day opened with a lecture by Barkev Keoshkerian of the Xerox Research Centre of Canada, one of the sponsors of the 2001 RISE program, entitled "A Radical Journey". This was followed by the presentations of the eleven 2001 RISE Scholars, and finally a lecture by one of last year's new faculty partipants, Dr. Linda Johnston of the National Research Council of Canada. Her talk was entitled "Psoralen Photochemistry: The Role of Electron Transfer". The day ended with dinner at Lo Presti's at Maxwell's, one of Hamilton's finest restaurants.

The 2001 RISE Group owes special thanks to the Department of Chemistry and the Faculty of Science of McMaster University for hosting the meeting and providing support for the workshop, and to Saint Jean Photochemicals for providing T-shirts to commemorate the event. We also thank the Xerox Research Centre of Canada and 3M Canada for financial support of this year's program.
