The Eighth Annual RISE Workshop was held on August 12-13, 2003, at the 39th IUPAC Congress & 86th Conference of the Canadian Society for Chemistry in Ottawa, ON. The Workshop began on Tuesday evening with the a wine and cheese reception in the Department of Chemistry, University of Ottawa, which allowed the 2003 RISE Scholars and faculty participants to meet and get acquainted with one another. The Workshop began in earnest at 9:30 a.m. the next morning, with presentations from the thirteen 2003 RISE Scholars on the research they carried out during the summer. The Workshop was held as a special conference symposium, hosted by the CSC's Division of Chemical Education. The day ended with dinner at L'Oree du Bois, across the river in Hull, Quebec.
The 2003 RISE Group owes special thanks to Boehringer Ingelheim Canada, 3M Canada, the University of Ottawa, and the National Research Council of Canada for hosting the meeting and providing support for the workshop.
