University of Saskatchewan (Kenderdine Campus)
Emma Lake, SK, August 27-29, 2004
The Ninth Annual RISE Workshop was held on August 27-29, 2004, at the Kenderdine Campus of the University of Saskatchewan at picturesque Emma Lake, just south of Prince Albert National Park in Saskatchewan. The Workshop began on Friday evening with a weenie roast on the beach, allowing the twelve 2004 RISE Scholars and faculty participants to meet and get acquainted with one another. Following brisk showers the next morning and breakfast in the dining hall, the Workshop began in earnest at 9:00 a.m., with presentations from the students on the research they carried out during the summer and ending with a lecture entitled "Femtosecond Electron Diffraction: Making the Molecular Movie" by RISE newcomer Professor Dwayne Miller of the University of Toronto. The day ended with a gourmet banquet prepared by Shona Miller, chef of the University of Saskatchewan's Faculty Club.
The 2004 RISE Group owes special thanks to Boehringer Ingelheim Canada, 3M Canada, and the President, College of Arts and Science, and Department of Chemistry of the University of Saskatchewan for hosting the meeting and providing support for the Workshop.
