DIRECTOR OF NMR LABORATORIES, THE UNIVERSITY OF
TENNESSEE, KNOXVILLE.

The Department of Chemistry and Division of Biology at the University
of Tennessee, Knoxville seek an individual for the position of
Director of NMR Laboratories for Bruker high-field spectrometers (250
- 400 MHz) and a Nicolet solids spectrometer (200 MHz). The Director
(Ph.D. or equivalent degree required) will hold the title Research
Assistant (or Associate) Professor in the Department of Chemistry.
The duties of this position will include responsibility for the
installation, operation, and scheduling of multiple high field NMR
instruments. The Director will also be expected to assist the
maintenance of a state-of-the-art facility, the implementation of new
techniques and pulse sequences, and decisions on upgrading existing
and acquisition of new instrumentation. Research collaboration on NMR
experiments with the faculty, staff and students will be expected.
The development and pursuit of extramural funding for an independent
research program will be strongly encouraged. Desirable experience
for the position includes: 1) multidimensional NMR studies focussed on
the determination of structure and dynamics of molecules in solution,
including macromolecules; 2) solid state NMR experiments including
multinuclear, variable temperature CP/MAS techniques; 3) experience in
NMR and RF electronics, computer operating systems (e.g. UNIX, DOS,
Windows), networking instruments to workstations, and third party
software (e.g. FelixTM). Women and minority candidates are especially
