Hi folks:
I'd like take this opportunity to thank very one in this net for
answering my question about AMX tape. It looks like my problem is
beyond the scope of simple commend operation. I tried all the options
that I have got up to now. I tried all the possible tape devices also.

The typical messages I got from tar are:

tar: tape read error: I/O error

or the 2nd kind of messages if I use type the following:

dd if=/dev/rmt/tps1d5nrns conv=swab | tar tvf
tar: tapefile must be specified with 'f' option
usage: tar [-][{ruxXtcC}acdefhlm{o|S}pqvwLUBDRVOfb] [dir] [tapefile] [blocksize] file ...
dd: read error: I/O error
0+0 records in
0+0 records out

in the Console window I got:
NOTICE: SCSI tape #5 Hardware error, Non-recoverable

This make me think I might have to tune this computer a little
bit or the tape is bad. Any one can decipher these error massages?

On the other hand I got nice collection of tape command. I am
more than pleased to send them to any one who are interested
in this net.
