We recently bought UPS's for our AMX500 and DRX500. We bought BEST
4.3KVA units for each spectrometer. We are running the consoles and
Indy computers from the UPS's. In the case of the DRX we are also
running the B-CU05 air cooler from UPS. The AMX has a Haake bath for
temperature control, which draws too much power to be run on the UPS.
This gives about 30 min. of battery power for the DRX and about 40
min. for the AMX. We figure this will cover 90% of our power
failures. We have had no problems since they were installed in March.
For example, last Tuesday the external power for our DRX went down for
ten minutes during a NOESY. It chugged along merrily on battery
power, and there was no evidence of a power disturbance in the data.
The units cost about $5000 Canadian each, and we feel that it was
money well spent. Shop around and you should be able to get a good
price; the UPS market is very competitive.
Best regards, Bruce.
