The problem I had is down to the graphics set up of my machine (a Compaq
pentium with 2MB of VRAM) I was running 24bit 32K colours and it was this that
caused the hang-up. When I reduced the colours to 8-bit (256 colours), xwinnmr
runs without a hitch (thanks to M.Tolley for prompting me in this direction).
The program will run in a root window, or rootless although sometimes the
background does change when working in the x-window - this is a client problem
I think. My experience is with x-vision - I would be interested in hearing
from users of other pc x-windows emulators.
My question to the programmers of xwinnmr is, why do all the other x programs
we run here (one other NMR operating system, and numerous modelling programs)
work fine with the 24-bit colours, and xwinnmr doesn't?
