Encountered a problem while applying some patches to IRIX 5.3 on an SGI
Indy that is running Xwinnmr 1.3 (patch level 7) hooked up to a DMX.
Our IRIX is currently patched with all patches distributed on the
Xwinnmr CD and the currently recommended patches from SGI (available at
<http://www.surf.sgi.com/SurfZone/Support/recpatch/>, registration
required).
Specifically, my problem was that installation of patch SG0001479
prevented Xwinnmr from starting up. Typing "xwinnmr" (or various
permutations of that) would return the error message, "Argument
expected" and end the process. Removal of patch 1479 solved the
problem. Since 1479 obsoletes patch 1335 (available on the Xwinnmr CD),
I had to go back and install 1335. Both 1335 and 1479 patch bugs in the
runtime linker and debugger, rld.
Since we just did this today, I can't make any claims about stability
under the newer recommended patches. But no other problems found yet.
And, of course, your mileage may vary . . .
If I find anything else, I'll post to the group.
