Don,

The best solution I have come across for graphic file conversion in IRIX
is called ImageMagick . It can also be used for manipulation/annotation
of images. With ghostscript installed on the SGI then it will handle
EPS files and convert them to anything you can think of (and some). The
easiest way to install it is:

a. Get a copy of the relevant SGI freeware CD (Version 1.0 is
IRIX 5.3-based, Version 2.0, is a mixture of IRIX 6.2)
b. Get the 'inst'allable files from SGIs site at
http://www.sgi.com/TasteOfDT/public/freeware.html

As far as I understand, ImageMagick comes out of DuPont and is
totally free software - for everyone.
