It has been my experience that Windows programs will not properly read EPS
files unless the EPS file is setup first with the Windows metafile for EPS
preview. I use GSVIEW32.EXE Version 2.2 under Windows95 to do this. If you
already have an eps file you can open it in the program and under the Edit
window there is a selection for "Add EPS preview". Select "Windows
Metafile". Then the altered file can be imported into Windows programs.
When you say you cannot open successfully on your PC programs, I am making
the assumption you are talking about Windows programs and not about DOS
based PC programs. EPS with DOS programs might be different. I should
mention that the EPS preview options in GSVIEW32.EXE include Interchange,
TIFF 4, TIFF 6 uncompressed, TIFF 6 packbits, Windows Metafile and also
User Supplied Preview formats. A tower of Babylon of file formats. I don't
necessarily recommend GSVIEW32.EXE under Windows95 it is just what I use.
GSVIEW32.EXE is a Windows interface program for Alladin Ghostscript
running under Windows95. There are several flavours of Ghostscript running
on several platforms. You could probably do all your file conversion in
Ghostscript running under IRIX. I just depends on what tools you have set
up.
