Many thanks to the several people who replied to my request for
assistance. The fix turned out to be relatively simple. The file
/usr/spool/lp/pstatus was, as I indicated, missing and had to be created
using 'touch /usr/spool/lp/pstatus' (as root). Then it was "chown'd" to lp
and "chgrp'd" to bin. After this lpsched started right away.
