Well, the messages have been pouring in and the simpliest (but not only)
answer is:
.............

use cfpp in Xwinnmr choose ps600_A (_NOT_ psc600_A even though it's
colour)

in xwinplot choose postscript plotter
AND change the plot command to remove the -oraw option (I have heard
both change to -ops and just remove the -o I removed the -o )

works just fine now.

thanks to everyone,

Karen Ann

"You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I
thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the
terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them?
So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of
the universe." Marcus to Franklin in Babylon 5
