Sorry for any cross posting since many of you may be on both groups. We are
looking into making some upgrades to our AMX-500 (circa 1991) and would
appreciate comments on the following questions.
1) Our HP7550a is about to bite the dust (again) and it is getting almost
impossible to keep these dinosaurs working. I have succeeded in convincing
our users that plotting on the HPLJ3P and using different linetypes instead
of different colors for the levels works quite well. The one thing that
they still complain about is the fact that laser jet will only print 8.5 x
11.5 in. max and they prefer plotting on the 11 x 17 format they have been
using on the HP7550A. Our HPLJ3P is now on the fritz in that it is not
grabbing the paper from the feeder on a regular basis and frequently gives a
paper jam error. I am told that this is a common problem of this printer
model. Is there an easy fix for this such as replacing rollers, etc.? I
had planned to replace this printer with an HPLJ6P or 6L in the near future
but now wonder if there are better replacement options. In particular, does
anyone make a reasonably priced laser printer that will also print on 11 x
17 paper? If so, does Bruker or someone else supply drivers for this for an
Aspect X-32 running UXNMR? Are there any other printer options anyone can
suggest?
2) I have been following the discussion about CD-R drives available for
Brukers but, as I recall, these have all referenced Brukers with SGI
computers. Are there any reasonably priced CD-R, MO, etc. options available
that will work with the quirky X-32 (besides the one Bruker sells for
$7900)? I am currently archiving data on the TDC 3319 1/4 inch tape drive
which gets quite expensive and is not as "permanent" as optically archived
data would be.
Many thanks for any info. on these subjects.
