I have recently been backing up data for three Bruker NMRs using a PC
with a recordable CD drive. I FTP the data to the PC and then write it
to the disk periodically. This has the advantage of giving you an
interum backup of the data on the PC hard disk. The CDR drive is under
$300 and blank CDs under $2. The easy to use software for PCs makes
writing the disks easy (you can write to the CD's as many times as you
like until it is full). If you write the disks as iso9660 compatible
and do the FTP transfer as binary the disks are then readable in UNIX CD
drives. This is the most cost effective and easy method for backing up
650Mb I have found.
