magnet location

We have two instruments located on the upper floors of this building; an
AC250 on the third floor and an AC300 on the second floor. The AC300 does
not have vibration dampers and does exhibit some vibrations in the spectra,
although they do not really interfere with the results from this routine
1H/13C sample-changer equipped instrument. (I would still like to have
them if sufficient funds were to appear!) The AC250 (also equipped with a
sample changer) has dampers, and shows virtually no vibrations at all in
the spectra. We have had a small (approx 0.2%) 10 Hz sideband appear, due
to an interaction with the sample changer foot. We were able to get rid of
it with a strategically placed rubber pad; this is now slowly reappearing,
so I guess it's time to replace the little rubber pad.

I would have no qualms about installing an instrument on the upper floors
of a building, provided that suitable vibration damping were in place on
all instruments.
