        Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Technician

        Food and Soft Materials Guelph NMR Centre
        Dean’s Office, College of Physical and Engineering Science

The Food and Soft Materials Guelph NMR Centre is an NMR facility which,
combined with existing Chemistry and Biochemistry facilities, is comprised of
four, high-resolution Bruker and Varian spectrometers. This Centre will
provide analytical research services, as well as technical and scientific
advice, to both the academic and industrial communities. The successful
candidate will assist in the operation and maintenance of the facility and
will
be required to be technically proficient in both solution state and solid
state
NMR experimentation.

Specific duties will include: running samples on one solid state and three
solution state NMR spectrometers, overseeing SGI and SUN Unix workstations and
the associated network, coordinating instrumental access by users, training
non-specialized users and monitoring authorized users, maintaining
superconducting magnets, running periodic checks on the NMR spectrometers,
performing preliminary diagnosis of electronic malfunctions and minor repairs
and other associated duties.

Requirements of the position: Masters Degree in a related discipline plus
relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates should have a background in NMR spectroscopy (both solid and
solution states), Unix computer skills, strong organizational and
communication
skills.
