Dear all,

Thanks for all the help with the problem of running a remote XwinNMR
session from Linux. The advice that worked for us was from Rudi
Nunlist:

Unless you have a video card that supports overlays ( Matrox G200 through
G500), you need to start an X server using 8-bit Pseudocolor mode. The
easiest way is to switch to another virtual console terminal, log in and
use "startx" with the appropriate option. Depending on the version Xfree
the syntax probably is one of "startx -- :1 -depth 8", or "startx -- :1
-bpp 8" or something similar.

With a Matrox card set up for overlays, try "startx -- :1 -cc 4"

The command which worked for our setup was: startx -- :1 -depth 8

Thanks again for all the ideas.

Phil.
