UXNMR Data formats

We sometimes acquire data on a AMX2-300 (Aspect Station) and process the
datasets on a Bruker X-32 Work Station (CPU/3) running UXNMR 930601. Until
recently, this presented no problem. After the AMX2-300 had the latest software
release installed, we get the "cannot read meta file" error on the X-32, for
both 1D and 2D data. It seems that the meta file is now in ASCII (JCAMP?)
format as opposed to binary. Is there a "back conversion" utility or other
work around available to take care of this problem?

A second question of a more general nature: why are all the parameter files
"duplicated"? Ie, acqu and acqus, proc and procs and so forth?
