At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I am going to chime in here. I
certainly agree with Jane about taking advantage of a real operating
system and protecting the data of those who use the instrument. On the
other hand, I can't see how it cannot be administratively more of a hassle
to give everyone their own account. I do not do that here, and if I did I
am certain I would be spending considerably more time dealing with setting
up the accounts, removing them, monitoring them, etc. etc. etc. I do give
the "power users" (or, "power groups") their own accounts, but force the
occaisional user to use a default account. It is easy within xwinnmr for
the individual users within the default account to set up their own data
directories. The negative part is that anyone who uses the default account
can delete files within those directories if they desire.
