Faulty B-LTX amplifier

Merry Christmas BUM'ers,

Its always a good omen when, trying to leave for the holidays, the student
comes in and says "The amplifier is not working!"

We have an AMX-2 system with a strange cobbled-together collection of parts.
Our primary amplifier had been a B-LTX-300.

Today, it was making an audible clicking noise, and the F1 indicator LED was
flashing in time with the clicking noise. This occurred regardless of
whether we were pulsing or not. Power cycling the console did not change
this either. It appears the output stage of the BLTX is completely dead, as
we could not even trigger the scope, or see noise on the scope, when the
output stage was hooked up (large attenuator or not).

F1-in to the amplifier was still giving the expected signal. Fortunately, I
had a spare BSV-10 amplifier in the rack below (for that extra channel I
never hooked up) so I switched over the F1/2-in, the Burndy, and the F1-out
to the BSV-10, and we're back in business, albeit with a high power
reflection in the AMX router display.

However, the BLTX output is cleaner, and it would be good to return to using
that amplifier.

Has anyone seen an amplifier like this behave in this way, or have any
suggestions? Or is it effectively trash?

Many Thanks,

Ross Mair
