I am currently using a CDC RSD 80 Mbyte cartridge drive on an ASPECT
computer. At various times I have had two RSD's or one RSD and one
phoenix on the same ASPECT through a LIGHTNET box. The RSD can be
set up to look like the lower platter (D1, D3, etc) of a Phoenix in a
mixed system. I bought these drives used but they can be bought new
as they are still in production (Magnetic Devices Inc.) I have had to
have one repaired over the years and MDI does accept them for repair
(Head crash, $650 plus freight). The cartridges are $400 new or ca.
$100 recertified from various sources and each cartridge holds 80
Mbytes just like the lower platters of the Phoenix!. I know there is
a setting (code "D") on the disk interface pcb that is descibed as an
MMD 80 that has the same Cylinder and Sector/track specs as the
Phoenix. I have not tried this setting as yet. I am using the code
"A" setting and letting the ASPECT think the RSD drives are D1 and D3
respectively of two Phoenix drives. Used/Recertified drives might
cost $1500-$2000. Incidentally, two RSD drives can be mounted side-
by-side in the same space as one Phoenix drive with a T-bar kit.
