Current Members
David McLeod (mcleod2@mcmaster.ca) graduated summa cum laude with a B.Sc. from McMaster University. He then entered into the graduate program continuing to work under Dr. James McNulty in mild, aqueous Wittig chemistry. Currently in his 4th year of studies he has been awarded the Joy Cunningham Ontario graduate scholarship, the Colin James Lyne-Lock Ontario graduate scholarship, the Department of Chemistry Impact Award, and an NSERC postgraduate scholarship throughout his studies. Alex Nielsen (nielsa2@mcmaster.ca) is a recent graduate from the inaugural class of the Honours Integrated Science program at McMaster University with a concentration in biochemistry. He worked as an intern in the areas of cancer chemistry at AstraZeneca R&D Boston for the summers of 2010 and 2011. He was awarded an NSERC USRA to study with Dr. McNulty in 2012, and completed his senior thesis under his supervision. He was awarded an NSERC CGSM in 2013 and an NSERC PGSD in 2014 as a graduate student in Chemical Biology. His current research focuses on the development of organocatalytic and organophosphorous methodologies. Level of Study: PhD |

Carla Brown (brownce4@mcmaster.ca) graduated summa cum laude from McMaster University with a B.ArtSc in 2012, then completed an MSc at the University of Toronto in 2013. She is currently working on a PhD in the McNulty lab, with a focus on using organocatalysis to synthesize bioactive molecules. Carla has been awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship (PGS-D) and a Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS-M) from NSERC, as well as two Ontario Graduate Scholarships, in the course of her studies. Arkesh Narayanappa (naraya8@mcmaster.ca) obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from V. V. Pura College, Bangalore ,University, India in 2008. He worked in Biocon India Ltd for 1 year. In 2011, he obtained an M.Sc. in Chemistry from V.V. Pura College, Bangalore University, India. He then worked with AstraZeneca India, Bangalore as Assistant Research Scientist for 2.5 years. In September 2014, Arkesh joined McNulty lab as a Graduate Student in Chemistry. His current research is focused on transition metal catalyzed chemistry. Level of Study: MSc |

David Hurem (huremd@mcmaster.ca) obtained his BSc (Honours) in Biochemistry and MSc in Organic Chemistry from Brock University under the supervision of Prof. Travis Dudding, focusing on asymmetric organocatalysis and natural products synthesis. He joined the McNulty lab in 2015 after a brief position as a research chemist at PH Quantum Inc. His research focuses on development of Wittig methodologies towards the synthesis of terpenoid natural products. Level of Study: PhD |

Chanti Dokuburra (chantibabuiict@gmail.com) obtained his Ph.D degree from Indian Institute of chemical technology, Hyderabad, India under the supervision of Dr. Y.Venkateswarlu working on the synthesis and isolation of bio-active natural products from marine sources. He joined the McNulty research group at McMaster university to continue his postdoctoral studies. His current research interests include asymmetric synthesis of biologically active molecules. Manjeet Kumar (kumarm10@mcmaster.ca) was born in 1985 in Himachal Pradesh, India. He obtained his Ph.D degree from Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu. India under the supervision of Dr. Subhash Chandra Taneja and Dr. Bhahwal Ali Shah working on the isolation and synthesis of bio-active natural products. Thereafter, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Arun Kumar Ghosh in Purdue University, United States, working on the synthesis of Anti-HIV agents. He has recently joined Prof. McNulty research group at McMaster university to continue his postdoctoral studies. His current research interests include asymmetric organocatalysis and synthesis of biologically important molecules. Level of Study: Postdoc |

Omkar Revu (revuo@mcmaster.ca) obtained his Bachelor’s degree from A.P.Residential Degree College, Nagarjuna Sagar, India in 2008. He obtained his Master’s degree (Chemistry) in 2010 from the Department of Chemistry, Pondicherry University, India. He then finished his doctoral research in2015 from the Indian Institute of Science, India under the supervision of Prof. Kavirayani R Prasad. At present he is working as a post doctoral fellow in Prof. McNulty’s research group, on asymmetric organocatalytic methodology development with a focus to synthesis of antiviral compounds.
