Abstract: The overall objective of our research is to exploit the molecular recognition elements affecting chemical and biological transformations. We are designing novel phosphorus-containing molecules that can be used as: (I) Leads in Medicinal Chemistry or as (II) Ligands in Metal-Mediated and Organocatalytic Asymmetric Synthesis.

There are obvious benefits to combining studies in novel synthetic methodologies with studies in medicinal chemistry and consequently, we aim to identify asymmetric catalytic reactions that can supported the efficient and safe synthesis of human therapeutics. Examples will be presented to illustrate the extensive “cross-pollination” between our efforts in asymmetric synthesis and medicinal chemistry projects focusing the treatment of various cancers, including hematological cancers, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and colorectal cancer.
