The CCB EDI committee warmly invites you to join Dr. Tricia Carmichael in a staff-only EDI conversation to take place on Wednesday, April 26 from 2:00-3:00pm in ABB A204. You’ve likely attended “EDI 101” events in the past and we want to stress that this conversation will move beyond that, focusing on CCB specifically.

Our facilitator is Tricia Carmichael, a professor of surface and materials chemistry at the University of Windsor and the Chair of their Faculty of Science EDI Taskforce.

The departmental EDI survey in Fall 2022 suggested that, while staff – including postdocs – feel a sense of community and appreciation with their immediate colleagues, they can sometimes feel less noticed by the department at large and it’s not always clear which aspects of departmental life are “for staff.”

The survey also revealed that staff members want to contribute to building a more inclusive department, but some worry about saying the wrong thing or about being misinterpreted. Staff members may also feel overwhelmed with other obligations.  This event is meant to help reduce those barriers and is a great opportunity to engage in conversations around EDI in a supportive environment. Whether you completed the survey or not, we hope that you’ll take this opportunity to join in the conversation.
