Redox-active early transition-metal and f-block phthalocyanines
The spectroscopic and redox properties of metallophthalocyanines(PcM) are active areas of research. PcM complexes can be successively reducedusing chemical, electrochemical, or photochemical methods to give rise tospecies containing reduced Pc3-, Pc4-, Pc5-,or Pc6- ligands or oxidized to Pc-1 or Pc0.These species are usually generated and characterized in situ and haveonly recently begun to be isolated and structurally characterized. Inparticular, thereare few examples of phthalocyanines with early-transition and f-block metals -despite the rich organometallic-type reactivity of these metals – and thus wetargeted new PcM complexes in this underdeveloped area of the periodictable.
Inthis presentation the isolation and structural characterization of new PcMmaterials with M=chromium, zirconium, scandium and several f-block elements(including uranium) will be described, along with rare structurallycharacterized examples of their reduced Pc3-and Pc4- complexes. Their electronic structure will bediscussed using a combination of spectroscopic and structural techniques. PcMcomplexes of early transition metals and lanthanides that contain both sigma-and pi-organometallic co-ligands will also be presented. Time permitting, ourrelated work on NIR-absorbing PcMn-complexes will also be described.
