Over the past ten years there has been much talk about the laboratory of the future and how scientific experiments will be executed in both academic and industrial laboratories. While there has been no clear consensus of exactly how the Lab of the Future will evolve, the Lab of Today is very different than the lab of just ten years ago. These changes have significantly impacted the type of scientific talent companies recruit, hire, and attempt to retain. Understanding how the execution of science is evolving and rewarded and its impact on academics, post docs, and students aspiring to interface with commercial scientific enterprises will be discussed.
